About Ian
Our online piano teacher Ian offers piano lessons in all styles of music for ages 12 and above, from beginner to advanced. This piano teacher has a Bachelor of Education in Music (Instrumental/Choral Music) degree and a wealth of experience both teaching and performing on piano. Ian has been teaching piano lessons since 1994. In his career, Ian has been an in-demand solo piano performer. He was the house pianist at "Les Ailes de la Mode" in Ottawa for over 2 years. He has performed as a soloist in a wide variety of venues, including The National Art Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of Civilization. For over 15 years, Ian has been a regular member of "The Swingmasters,” a Kingston Ontario-based small 'big band' jazz group, performing every summer on the Island Star, cruising the 1000 islands. Ian has also served as an accompanist for many Ottawa-based musical theatre groups, such as Orpheus Musical Theatre Society, Suzart, and the Ottawa Little Theatre. Musical ensembles under Ian's direction have received numerous awards, including National Capital MusicFest Gold and Silver standing, Kiwanis Festival Awards, and Gold standing for Jazz Ensemble at MusicFest Canada. As a music teacher in the publicly-funded school system for over 25 years, he has developed the ability to quickly identify student needs and adapt his teaching to effectively address these needs. Ian looks forward to applying this experience and expertise to his guidance of future piano students.
