About Michael

Our online piano teacher Michael offers classical and jazz piano lessons for ages 9 and above, from beginner to advanced. This piano teacher has a Ph.D. in the Arts, as well as a Master of Music degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance, and a Bachelor of Jazz Studies degree, and now teaches jazz piano at the Municipal Conservatory of Heraklion in Crete. Michael has been teaching piano lessons since 2002. A full-time working musician, for over twenty years he has been performing as the resident solo jazz piano artist for the most prestigious hotel venues in Crete, giving more that 4,500 performances. He also has experience performing collaboratively, including with a jazz trio and a jazz quartet. He has also played piano for jazz festivals and other live venues in Crete. Michael is a sought-after accompanist for jazz soloists and vocalists. In his Ph.D. thesis, Resuming the Narrative: The Presence of Romantic Ideals in Modern Jazz Piano, he was able to offer a paradigm shift in jazz methodology, as he brought together seemingly-antagonistic intellectual approaches— Critical Theory, Musical Analysis, and Artistic Practice. His methodological outlook is a privileged one, as his experience in performing combined with his involvement in teaching allow him to recognize both the practical learning needs and the psychological setbacks of aspiring musicians. Michael’s expertise in teaching jazz piano includes a deep understanding of the learning process and an ability to incorporate various aspects of music in each piano lesson.
